Can grounding sheets go in the dryer? Short answer: usually yes, but with care — and getting it wrong is one of the fastest ways to shorten your sheet's life. Here's exactly how to dry a grounding sheet without damaging the conductive silver that makes it work.
The short answer
Most grounding sheets can go in the dryer on low or no heat. The enemy isn't the dryer itself — it's high heat, which stresses the fine silver threads over time and can gradually reduce conductivity. Always check your specific sheet's care label, but low-heat or air-dry is the safe default.
Why heat is the risk
A grounding sheet works through conductive silver woven into the fabric. Those threads are durable but fine, and repeated high-heat drying can degrade them faster than the fabric around them. Lowering the heat is the single biggest thing you can do to extend the sheet's working life.
Best practice for drying
Air-drying is gentlest — hang or lay the sheet flat and it'll be ready before long. If you use the dryer, choose low or no heat and remove the sheet while it's still very slightly damp to avoid over-drying. Skip dryer sheets entirely: like fabric softener, they leave a coating that insulates the silver and reduces grounding.
What to avoid
No high heat, no dryer sheets, no fabric softener, and don't iron directly over the conductive areas. These are the habits that quietly kill a grounding sheet's effectiveness. The full washing routine that pairs with this is in our wash and care guide.
After drying — a quick check
If you have a connection tester, it's worth confirming the sheet still reads correctly after laundering, especially early on while you're learning its tolerances. If anything seems off, re-check the whole setup with our setup guide before assuming damage.
Treated gently — low heat, no softener — a good grounding sheet stays effective for years. Ours is built for real-world laundering, with Canadian support if you're unsure about care. See the Tala grounding sheet →
